{"id":4617,"date":"2021-02-14T15:17:10","date_gmt":"2021-02-14T15:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arquidiocesisdelahabana.org\/address-sunday-february-14-2021\/"},"modified":"2024-03-16T04:05:03","modified_gmt":"2024-03-16T04:05:03","slug":"address-sunday-february-14-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arquidiocesisdelahabana.org\/en\/address-sunday-february-14-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Allocution Sunday, February 14, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-4617-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/arquidiocesisdelahabana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Domingo-14-de-feb-lite.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/arquidiocesisdelahabana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Domingo-14-de-feb-lite.mp3\">https:\/\/arquidiocesisdelahabana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Domingo-14-de-feb-lite.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>We thank all the people who make this radio broadcast possible today, Sunday, February 14, Lord&#8217;s Day, Valentine&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p>Today the gospel of Mark, chapter 1, verses 40 to 45, is read in all the Catholic churches of the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Sick people sometimes suffer more from being away from their family and friends than from the illness itself.<\/p>\n<p>But when Jesus approaches these sick people, when family and friends and neighbors are close, the illness is endured in peace.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus listened to this sick man in the gospel, he had compassion for him, he extended his hand to him, touched him and spoke to him: <em>I want to heal you and he healed..<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Saint Paul in the second reading of today&#8217;s mass says: <em>be imitators of Christ.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We want to do the same as Christ. Listen to the sick, feel sorry for the sick, extend your hand to them, help them, talk to them and the sick person will be filled with peace and that peace will lift their spirits and they will fight with all their strength to recover health of soul and body.<\/p>\n<p>We present in prayer our sick people who are family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>We present in prayer all the sick whose names you have sent to the Archbishopric of Havana and we say to the Lord Jesus: <em>If you want, you can cure them.<\/em> Something nice will happen to them and to us.<\/p>\n<p>We present in prayer all the patients who suffer from Covid. Lord Jesus Christ, heal them, restore their health and return them to their homes.<\/p>\n<p>An old native of New Guinea used to read Bible stories to his patients waiting to be seen or treated at a missionary clinic.<\/p>\n<p>One day he felt that he couldn&#8217;t read very well, the doctor examined his eyesight and found that the man was going blind very quickly. The next day the man did not show up at the hospital. Someone commented that they had seen him go to the mountains alone.<\/p>\n<p>After a few weeks a boy led the doctor to the old man&#8217;s hiding place.<\/p>\n<p>What are you doing here? The doctor asked him.<\/p>\n<p>The old man replied: While I still have some sight left, doctor, I want to memorize the stories and passages of the Bible. So when I lose my sight completely I will be able to return to the hospital and continue telling patients about Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>What do I have to do to share the Good News of Jesus with others as enthusiastically as the old man!<\/p>\n<p>(Song)<\/p>\n<p>February 17 is Ash Wednesday. That day, in all the Catholic churches of the world, the ashes, the result of the combustion of the guano blessed in the previous Holy Week, are blessed and placed on the faithful&#8217;s foreheads, while the minister says: <em>Remember that you are dust and to dust you will return<\/em>, or also: <em>Convert and believe in the gospel<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Thus begins 40 days of preparation for Holy Week, which this year falls from Sunday, March 28 to Sunday, April 4. During these 40 days, which we call Lent, God invites us to conversion, to change to be better.<\/p>\n<p>We remember the times when we loved God, family, neighbors, and the sick more. We remember the times when we were better people, better husbands, better parents, better children, better Christians, better friends. We want to return to those times and if today we are good, helpful, available, tomorrow we can grow, progress, be better.<\/p>\n<p>The Church offers us three paths for this spiritual progress:<\/p>\n<p>Prayer: As we want all family members to be better, we pray as a family. Every night before going to sleep, we read a biblical text, discuss it and pray. Thus conversion, being better, progressing in faith and love will be not only personal, but also family.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not have the New Testament or Missal 2021, ask for it by calling 78624000 and tell us which church we will send it to.<\/p>\n<p>Another path to conversion and improvement is fasting. Fasting is taking away things that we like, uniting ourselves with Christ crucified, it is strengthening our will, it is training it to remove sin, evil, which does harm our person, family, society, the Church.<\/p>\n<p>How nice it would be if your fast is to stop smoking! It would strengthen your will to overcome sin and you would regain health.<\/p>\n<p>How nice it would be to eliminate foods that harm your health and promote diabetes and high blood pressure! You would improve your health and by sharing your food you would grow in love.<\/p>\n<p>How nice it would be to take away the alcohol that destroys marriages and families!<\/p>\n<p>What great happiness for your parents, your children and friends!<\/p>\n<p>What a great Holy Week, everyone free from all evil of body and soul!<\/p>\n<p>Another path to conversion is almsgiving. Discover the needs of others and share what we can.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of life we \u200b\u200bwill only take good works done to our brothers. No jewelry, no clothes, no money. Only love.<\/p>\n<p>What a great Easter! What a great Easter Sunday! What a great Easter Sunday!<\/p>\n<p>Passover is a Hebrew word that means PASSAGE. I move on to the best. Step to real life. Step to true love. Step to peace, harmony and family unity.<\/p>\n<p>(Song)<\/p>\n<p>Today the world celebrates Valentine&#8217;s Day. Here is the story of two lovers:<\/p>\n<p>An old man, named Sergio, who had suffered a slight injury to his finger, was waiting very nervously in the emergency room of the polyclinic.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing that they were treating people who had arrived after him, he turned to the nurses.. They told him to wait calmly, that they were dealing with more urgent cases than his first, and that they would call him right away.<\/p>\n<p>When it was his turn, the doctor, after curing him, asked him why he was in such a hurry and so nervous.<\/p>\n<p>-I have to give lunch to my wife Marta who is sick at home, and I don&#8217;t want to be late!<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ren\u00e9 Zamora, surprised, told him:<\/p>\n<p>-You would have told us, and we would have attended to you sooner! What does your wife have? Have you had surgery for something serious? How serious is it?<\/p>\n<p>-No, said Sergio, she is sick with Alzheimer&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>-Ah! said Dr. Zamora, but in that case it doesn&#8217;t matter when you arrive, because she won&#8217;t recognize you: she doesn&#8217;t know who you are.<\/p>\n<p>-It&#8217;s true, Sergio said, that she doesn&#8217;t know who I am, but I do know who she is, and I don&#8217;t want to keep her waiting.<\/p>\n<p>As he said goodbye to the old man, the doctor thought: If only I were loved with a love like that!<\/p>\n<p>(Song)<\/p>\n<p>A king fell in love with a young peasant girl but thought that if he married her and remained king the gap between them could be very deep. She could always be aware of her condition as a poor peasant, and he could always be aware of his condition as a king. So the king decided to give up his throne and become a poor peasant like her.<\/p>\n<p>He realized, however, that this plan could backfire. People might consider him stupid and the girl might reject him. He could perhaps end up without his lover and without the throne, but the king loved the peasant girl so much that he decided to risk everything to carry out this marriage.<\/p>\n<p>In what way is the husband or wife willing to give up everything for that love?<\/p>\n<p>(Song)<\/p>\n<p>Here is the prayer of two lovers:<\/p>\n<p><em>Lord, you who saw us arrive at marriage full of love and loaded with dreams, you who saw how over time the sweet words that we loved so much, the small gifts, the small attentions died, you who saw how it was born in our hearts. selfishness, small infidelities, insincerity, you who know how, without wanting to, we numbed that first love: do not allow today or tomorrow to mourn its consequences.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Help us to discover all the good that there is in the one whom I always loved, to love each other again and speak to each other face to face again, and to offer the other what we always wanted them to give us.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In a word, help us to live a new life in our marriage, full of hope and illuminated by the light of your Gospel. Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you tell us the date of your marriage anniversary we will send you a congratulations.<\/p>\n<p>We unite ourselves with Christ spiritually singing Alma de Cristo:<\/p>\n<p><em>Soul of Christ, sanctify me.<br \/>\nBody of Christ, save me.<br \/>\nBlood of Christ, intoxicate me.<br \/>\nWater from the side of Christ, wash me.<br \/>\nPassion of Christ, comfort me.<br \/>\nOh, good Jesus! Hear me.<br \/>\nInside your wounds, hide me.<br \/>\nDon&#8217;t let me separate from You.<br \/>\nFrom the enemy, defend me.<br \/>\nAt the hour of my death, call me.<br \/>\nAnd command me to come to You.<br \/>\nSo that with your saints I may praise you.<br \/>\nForever and ever. Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lord Jesus, Divine Physician, we ask you to protect us from coronavirus and all lethal diseases.<\/p>\n<p>Have mercy on all those who have died.<\/p>\n<p>Heal all those who are sick.<\/p>\n<p>Enlighten all scientists who are searching for a remedy.<\/p>\n<p>Strengthens and protects all healthcare assistants who are currently helping the sick.<\/p>\n<p>Grant wisdom to all civil servants who are trying to limit contagion.<\/p>\n<p>And give peace to all who are afraid and worried, especially the elderly and those at risk.<\/p>\n<p>May your Precious Blood be our defense and salvation.<\/p>\n<p>By your grace transform the evil of illness into moments of consolation, growth in faith, hope and a greater experience of love.<\/p>\n<p>May we fear the contagion of sin more than any other disease.<\/p>\n<p>We abandon ourselves with complete confidence to your infinite mercy.<\/p>\n<p>(Song)<\/p>\n<p>We place in the hands of God the Father all the sick, all those in love, all the people we love, and we pray together:<\/p>\n<p><em> Our father\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And the blessing of God the Almighty Father who created us, the blessing of Jesus Christ who gave his life on the cross for us, the blessing of the Holy Spirit who can achieve our dreams, descend upon you, upon your families and remain forever.
