In short: an austere and radical man who, at first glance, may seem a little harsh and who instills a certain fear. But then we ask ourselves: ‘Why does the Church propose him every year as the main traveling companion during this time of Advent? What is hidden behind his severity, behind his apparent hardness? What is the secret of John the Baptist? What is the message that the Church gives us today with John the Baptist?’”

(Singing)

“In reality, the Baptist, more than a hard man, is a man allergic to falsehood. For example, when the Pharisees and Sadducees known for their hypocrisy approached him, his allergic reaction was very strong. Some of them, in fact, probably went to him out of curiosity or opportunism, because Juan had become very popular. Those Pharisees and Sadducees felt satisfied and in the face of the Baptist’s incisive appeal they justified themselves by saying: ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ Thus, between falsehoods and pride, they did not take advantage of the opportunity of grace, the opportunity to start a new life. They were closed in the presumption of being just. That is why John tells them: ‘Give, therefore, worthy fruit of conversion.’ It is a cry of love like that of a father who sees his son ruin and tells him: ‘Don’t waste your life.’

”In fact, dear brothers and sisters, hypocrisy is the most serious danger because it can also ruin the most sacred realities. Hypocrisy is a serious danger. That is why the Baptist, like later Jesus, is hard on hypocrites. We can read, for example, chapter 23 of Matthew, where Jesus speaks so strongly to the hypocrites of the time. Why does the Baptist and also Jesus do this? To wake them up. Instead, those who felt like sinners came to him, confessed their sins, and he baptized them in the Jordan.

”It is like this: to welcome God, it is not skill that matters but humility; This is the path to welcome God, not the skill. ‘We are strong, we are a great people’, no, humility. ‘I am a sinner, but not in the abstract’ no, I am a sinner because of this, this and this. Each of us must first confess to ourselves our own sins, faults, hypocrisies. You have to get off the pedestal and immerse yourself in the water of repentance.”

(Singing)

“Dear brothers and sisters, Juan with his allergic reactions makes us reflect. Aren’t we also sometimes a little like those Pharisees? Maybe we look down on others, thinking that we are better than them, that we have the reins of our lives, that we do not need God, the Church, our brothers and sisters every day, and we forget that only in one case is it legal. looking at another from above down, when it is necessary to help him up, the only case. Other cases of looking from above downwards are not legal.

”Advent is a time of grace to take off our masks. Each one of us has one and we can join the line with the humble to free ourselves from the presumption of believing ourselves to be self-sufficient, to go and confess our sins, those hidden ones, and accept God’s forgiveness to ask for forgiveness from those we have offended. Thus begins a new life and there is only one path, that of humility. Purify ourselves from the sense of superiority, formalism and hypocrisy, to see in others brothers and sisters, sinners like us, and see in Jesus the Savior who comes for us, not for others, for us. Just as we are, with our poverty, misery and defects, but, above all, with our need to be lifted up, forgiven and saved.”

(Singing)

“And let us remember one thing again, with Jesus the possibility of starting over always exists. It’s never too late, there is always the possibility of starting over. Have courage, he is close to us in this time of conversion. Each one can think: I have this situation inside, this problem that embarrasses me, but Jesus is close to you, start again. There is always the possibility of taking one more step, He waits for us and never gets tired of us, He never gets tired and we are tedious, but He never gets tired.

”Let us listen to the call of John the Baptist to return to God and do not let this Advent pass by like the days of the almanac, because this is a time of grace, of grace also for us, now here. May Mary, the humble servant of the Lord, help us find him, Jesus and our brothers on the path of humility, which is the only one that will make us move forward.”

(Singing)

On the path of the Baptist:
It is good to know that there are men of science, but it is better that we be men and women of conscience.
It’s good to know what we have to do, but it’s better to do what we have to do.
It is good to make plans and set a purpose, but it is better to carry them out.
It’s good to want success, but it’s better to do the things necessary to achieve it.
It’s good to make promises, but it’s better to keep them.
It is good to have dignity, but it is better not to step on that of others.
It is good to have everything, but it is better to share with those who have nothing.
It is good to know that you are loved and understood, but it is better to love and understand.
It is good to try not to fail, but it is better to help the unsuccessful.
It is good to seek the truth, but it is better to always talk to it.
It is good to have faith, but it is better to sow it in those who do not yet know God. But do it now, because the time of Advent is passing.

(Singing)

Christmas representation in the Cathedral.
All the children of the Cathedral Catechesis were enthusiastic and wanted the Christmas performance to be a marvel. The little children were going to perform it, but among them there was one with limitations for who knows what reasons. He was slower to learn than the others. He wanted to be at the presentation and the catechist was so sad to see him with such enthusiasm that she gave him a small role, that of the innkeeper who turned away Mary and Joseph because the lodging house was full.
On the day of the work, the Cathedral was packed, there were even many people standing. When they were at the part where Joseph and Mary arrive at the inn, where this troubled child had to speak, something unexpected happened. Joseph knocked on the door, the innkeeper came out, but when he was about to tell them that there was no accommodation, he saw the pregnant Virgin of the one who was going to be our salvation and his eyes filled with tears. He then told them: “Come in, come in… The lady can sleep in my bed and I will sleep on the floor.” There was a great silence in the Cathedral and many people shed tears. The performance was a great success even though it did not show what really happened on that Christmas night. But they all felt that something had changed in their lives. That limited child had taught him a lesson in love, in his innocence he showed them that we must love and help others, no matter who they are, because we are children of God and we are here to do good and without asking for anything in return.

(Singing)

We pray to Santa María del Loreto.
Saint Mary of Loreto, you lived in the house of Nazareth, Bethlehem and Egypt and when you were with Saint Joseph and Jesus, you imagined the House of Heaven that belongs to all the children of the owner, the Father God.
Saint Mary of Loreto, you lived in the home of faith, love, hope, joy and peace.
Santa María del Loreto, in your house you could ask for water, food, help, comfort and with Saint Joseph and Jesus you helped everyone.
Santa María del Loreto pray that our house is like yours, poor but beautiful, that our home is like yours, full of family warmth, and then everyone in your House in Heaven, together with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit … Amen.

(Singing)

In all Catholic Churches the letter of James, chapter 5, verses 7 to 10, is also read today.
“Therefore, brothers, wait patiently for the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer awaits the precious fruit of the earth, patiently waiting for the early and late rains. Well, do the same, be patient and have good courage, because the coming of the Lord is near. Brothers, do not complain about each other lest you be condemned, for the judge is already at the doors. Take as a model of perseverance and suffering the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.”
Word of God… We praise you Lord.

Patience, in turn, is expressed in its various nuances. Look at the farmer, says Santiago. The farmer is put as an example of someone who knows how to wait, but not with passive patience. He has the pleasure and courage to sow because he is certain that the seed will bear fruit. The teaching of patience of the prophets who have spoken in the name of God and have had the audacity to do so points in the same direction, although the fruit was often not very encouraging, but they were aware that success was known to the Lord. The second aspect of patience is the good use of the word in our relationships with others. The patient has courage and knows how to encourage and, at the same time, knows how to avoid continuous lamentations that lead to nothing.

(Singing)

(Our Father Prayer)

Mother of the Redeemer, fruitful Virgin, door to heaven always open, star of the sea, come to deliver the people who stumble and want to get up. To the admiration of heaven and earth, you gave birth to your holy creator and remain forever a Virgin. Receive the greetings of the angel Gabriel and have mercy on us sinners.
And the blessing of Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit descend upon you, upon your families and remain forever… Amen.

(Singing)

(Singing) Today, December 11, Third Sunday of Advent, the Gospel according to Saint Matthew chapter 11
