We hear in all the Catholic churches of the world the gospel according to Saint John, chapter 6, verses 41 to 51.

(GOSPEL)

Jesus Christ has told us: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. I am the bread of life”. He is spiritual food both in His Word and in His Body and Blood, truly present in the bread and wine consecrated by the very words of Jesus, which the priest repeats at His command.

With this spiritual food we have life. Life is love. Our life begins with the love of our parents and must grow with that paternal and maternal love that continues in every moment of our existence.

As we are the image and likeness of God, who is love, we are love, and that growing love makes life very happy, as it becomes more full every day.

There is full life in a home if there is love.

There is full life in a marriage if there is faithful love, and from there more life will emerge in the blessed fruits.

There is full life in the elderly who feel wanted, loved, cared for, treated with affection. Elderly people like this, surrounded by love, do not want to die.

There is full life in children who make their parents happy.

There is full life in the couple who are preparing to form together, forever, the beautiful family they have dreamed of, talked about.

There is full life in neighbors who help each other.

There is full life in those who settle their differences and conflicts as brothers.

There is full life in those who, having fallen into violence, alcohol, drugs and other vices, rise up, abandon the ugly past and begin again the good taught by the family.

Jesus Christ is life. He shows us that life in the Word of God written in the Bible, and with his spiritual bread of Communion he makes our life like His: all love, all peace, all forgiveness, all mercy.

And by being one with Christ, we will live with Him, we will serve with Him, we will fight with Him, we will suffer with Him, we will die with Him, we will be resurrected with Him, and then the happiness felt and lived in this life will be multiplied infinitely when we reach the house of the Lord. heaven, where He waits for us forever.

(SINGING)

Pope Francis, who has already restarted his Wednesday catechesis on August 4, continues speaking about the Letter of Saint Paul to the Christians of Galatia, a region that more or less covers modern-day Turkey.

We listen to a fragment of said catechesis, which is the bread of life and spiritual food for our full lives.

“Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

”When it comes to the Gospel and the mission of evangelizing, Paul gets enthusiastic, he goes out of his mind. It seems that he sees nothing other than this mission that the Lord has entrusted to him. Everything in him is dedicated to this announcement, and he has no other interest than the Gospel. It is Paul’s love, Paul’s interest, Paul’s job: to announce. He even goes so far as to say: ‘For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the Gospel’ (1 Cor 1:17). Paul interprets his entire existence as a call to evangelize, to make the message of Christ known, to make the Gospel known: ‘Woe to me,’ he says, ‘if I do not preach the Gospel’ (1Cor 9, 16). And writing to the Christians of Rome, he introduces himself simply like this: ‘Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, an apostle by calling, chosen for the Gospel of God’ (Rom 1:1). This is your vocation. In short, he is aware of having been ‘set apart’ to bring the Gospel to everyone, and he cannot do anything other than dedicate himself with all his strength to this mission.

”We therefore understand the sadness, disappointment and even the bitter irony of the apostle with the Galatians, who in his eyes are taking a wrong path, which will take them to a point of no return: they have taken the wrong path. The axis around which everything revolves is the Gospel. Paul does not think of the ‘four gospels’, as is spontaneous for us. In fact, as you are sending this Letter, none of the four gospels have been written yet. For him, the Gospel is what he preaches, what is called the kerygma, that is, the announcement. And what announcement? Of the death and resurrection of Jesus as a source of salvation. A Gospel that is expressed with four verbs: ‘that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures; that he was buried and that he rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures; who appeared to Cephas’ (1Cor 15, 3-5). This is Paul’s announcement, the announcement that gives life to us all. This Gospel is the fulfillment of the promises and is the salvation offered to all men. “Whoever welcomes him is reconciled with God, is welcomed as a true son and obtains eternal life as an inheritance.”

Read the letter to the Galatians, say in which chapter and verses the word Abba is found and what it means. Call the Archbishopric of Havana, telephone 78624000.

(SINGING)

The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains to us who the Bread of life is and how we feed on it.

What is the Eucharist?

The Eucharist is the very sacrifice of the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus, which He instituted to perpetuate throughout the centuries, until His second coming, the sacrifice of the cross, thus entrusting to the Church the memorial of His Death and Resurrection. It is a sign of unity, a bond of charity and an Easter banquet, in which Christ is received, the soul is filled with grace and we are given a pledge for eternal life.

When did Jesus Christ institute the Eucharist?

Jesus Christ instituted the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, “the night in which he was betrayed” (1Cor 11, 23), while celebrating the Last Supper with his Apostles.

How did he institute the Eucharist?

After meeting with the Apostles in the Cenacle, Jesus took the bread in his hands, broke it and gave it to them, saying: “Take it and eat it, all of you, because this is my body that will be given for you.” Then he took the chalice with the wine in his hands and said to them: “Take and drink from it, all of you, because this is the chalice of my Blood, Blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for all men to forgiveness of sins. Do this in commemoration of me.”

What does the Eucharist represent in the life of the Church?

The Eucharist is the source and culmination of all Christian life. In it, God’s sanctifying action on us and our worship of Him reach their summit. The Eucharist contains all the spiritual good of the Church: Christ himself, our Easter. It expresses and produces communion in the divine life and the unity of the People of God. Through the Eucharistic celebration we join the liturgy of heaven and anticipate eternal life.

What names does this sacrament receive?

The inexhaustible richness of this sacrament is expressed with various names that evoke its particular aspects. The most common are: Eucharist, Holy Mass, Lord’s Supper, Breaking of Bread, Eucharistic Celebration, Memorial of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Sacrifice, Holy and Divine Liturgy, Holy Mysteries, Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, Holy Communion .

If you are interested in a Catechism of the Catholic Church, ask for it by calling the Archbishopric of Havana, 78624000.

(SINGING)

Lord who are present in the sacrament of Love…

Lord, in the Eucharist you gave us all your Love…

Lord, you seek a very close union with us…

Lord, here you give us the supreme embrace of your Love…

Lord, out of Love you gave yourself to passion and the Cross…

Lord, you have left us here the memorial and the living memory of your Love…

Lord, you ask us to love you with all our hearts…

Lord, you remain in us when we receive you…

(SINGING)

Lord, you have your delight in being with us…

Lord, you unite us all brothers with you…

Lord, you make us love each other with one heart…

Lord, you will bring our love to its fullness in the glory of Heaven…

(SINGING)

Lord Jesus, our divine doctor, we ask you to protect us from coronavirus and all deadly diseases.
