“…Thank you for the new airs of hope that arise from your ministry as Father and Pastor and that seem to flood our world, whose renewing freshness is especially felt by the poor of our fields and cities, of the social, economic and political peripheries, of all the peoples of the earth, including ours. Thank you, Holy Father, for having favored the process of renewal in relations between Cuba and the United States, which will benefit our people so much. We hope that your call for peace extends not only at the high political levels, but that it reaches the people of both nations and especially our Cuban people who live here and in the United States, to achieve, in a Christian spirit of forgiveness and mercy, the longed-for reconciliation between all Cubans, those of us who live in Cuba or outside of Cuba. Only love and forgiveness among all of us will be a valid means for a true and peaceful renewal of our Cuban nation….”
